Family Day Skate – February 20, 12-3pm

You are invited to our third annual Family Day Skate event from 12-3pm – weather and ice conditions permitting. Hot chocolate and snacks will be served – come see our new rink if you haven’t had a chance to enjoy it yet this season!

Family Dinner & Movie Night – March 16

On Friday March 16, you are invited to another yummy spaghetti dinner at the community centre—provided free for SCA members! If you’d like to bring guests, they are welcome at a cost of $5/family.

Dinner is served from 6-7pm. There will be a hoola hoop contest around 6:45pm, and the family movie will start at 7pm. Closer to the date, this website will announce the movie title.

To make this event a success, we rely on help from community volunteers. If you can help with table & chair setup (between 3:30-4:30pm), monitoring admissions (between 5:45-7pm), or popping popcorn (between 6:30-8pm), please contact Carolyn at 403-249-1138 or email at info@scacalgary.ca. Snow Route parking bans

This winter a new Snow Route parking ban program will be introduced to Calgary. The purpose of this program is to support snow plowing operations by removing vehicles from the streets, allowing crews to clear snow from Calgary roads more efficiently and effectively. Parking will be temporarily restricted on designated “Snow Routes” for 72 hours following a declaration of a Snow Event by The City. Snow Events will be declared when five centimetres or more of snow has accumulated on city streets.

SCA Halloween Carnival Sunday October 30, 4-7pm

On Sunday October 30, over 400 people came to our fantastic “Halloween Spooktacular Carnival”. Our main hall (gym) was transformed by special effects lighting, fog machines and music to create a unique Halloween atmosphere that was great fun for everyone.

Kids visited booths to play all sorts of carnival games to earn candy prizes, and there were also exciting contests such as the “Mummy Wrap” for kids and adults to compete as teams.

Thank you to the Movie in the Park team for bringing their great production to our community centre, and thank you to Winsport/COP for sponsoring one of the carnival game booths.

This event would not have been a success without our volunteer game booth attendants. Thank you to Chelsea, Ashley, Carden, Judy, Les, Vern, Kerana, Candace, Madison, Taylor, Vern and Cooper for mastering and supervising all the carnival games that entertained the kids.

Watch for this event to return again for Halloween 2012.

This Saturday Oct 15 from 9am-2pm, bring your recycling & donation items to the SCA parking lot at 277 Strathcona Drive SW. Local Community Association Replaces And Recycles Aging Hockey Rink Facility

The Strathcona Christie Aspen Community Association (commonly referred to as the SCA Community Association or simply as the SCA) is replacing our 20 year old hockey rink constructed with wooden boards with a more modern designed facility which utilizes plastic “puckboard” and galvanized steel. The old rink required extensive maintenance each year, such as replacing aging adhesives and screws for top caps, and kickboards.

As part of our commitment to reuse and recycle, Canadian Arena Products Ltd. has engaged Sustainabuild Canada Corporation to find a use for the wood, fencing and other materials that will be removed. The SCA Community Association supports the initiative to reuse the materials by finding a new home for our rink. The rink could be reused in a community, acreage, or other location where there is no current hockey rink facility.

Some programs are offered via Westhills Community Camps – a collaboration of six community associations in the west hills area; some programs are offered by the City of Calgary.
